What we believe about God:
Guide
I believe that God is like the North Star. God is always there. God is like a guiding light for me and all people.
Companion
God is always there and walks beside us, but is there to carry us through the roughest times.
Life-giver
I believe in God as an eternal, all-encompassing entity, always watching over everyone. I believe in God as comforting and life giving, like a friend always there for you. Help through trouble, yes, but also in the rush of joy in winning a tennis match, in a good grade, in finishing a good book. I think of God as compassionate in triumph and defeat, happiness and sorrow, life and death, everything.
Judge
God and God alone has the power to judge, and that right is rightly deserved only by him.
What we believe about Jesus
Savior and Hope
Jesus was sent down to earth as God’s only son to be our savior. Christ was male because only then would he be heard. It doesn’t matter what race or religion Jesus belonged to. What matters is what he stood for. He wasn’t perfect. As he was the son of God, he was also the son of man and had human emotions, uncertainties and flaws. He did not die and take our sins with him in vain. Jesus’ resurrection stands for and gives us hope.
The One who brings us together
I believe Jesus is best represented by the fish. The fish reminds me of the story of people drawing the fish in the sand to find other Christians. This story shows that we are never alone.
What we believe about the Holy Spirit
I believe the Holy Spirit connects all people together because it is a similar feeling that we share. It grows from everyone's sense of spirit and becomes larger and more beautiful as it flourishes.
What we believe about the Holy Scripture, guidance for living
I consider the bible and Jesus’ teachings as a way of living. I believe the Holy Bible is our sacred text that we read to learn more and feel closer to God and Jesus Christ. With all the amazing stories it tells me anything can happen. Even if you do not believe in it at first, there are things such as miracles.
What we believe about our sacraments:
Baptism
I believe when some one is born, it is one of the biggest miracles. For God to give
someone life is so precious. Miracles like this go on every second of every day. To be born and given the chance of life is a wonderful gift, a blessing by God.
Communion
When I come to church, I love seeing people who are first visiting the church being greeted and welcomed by happy smiling faces. I love how our church, in particular, is so welcome to everyone that comes. When I visited my grandparents’ church, I wasn’t allowed to go up to the communion table because I’m not a regular attendee. I felt very unwelcome. That’s my favorite thing about our church: everyone is welcome.
What we believe about who we are as a church:
Support for each other:
Edwards Church has been very supportive of me. When I've had my surgeries they have sent letters cards etc. (I only remember this from my back) I don't know what they did when I was a baby but my Mom has been a member since she was little so it had to be something and I am very grateful for this.
Care for our world:
The church to me is mostly in the support for others, both in the church community and the homeless or poor. It connects people, links us together, with everyone interdependent and helpful and again, supportive.
Joys and challenges:
Church is like a country road. There are straight sections and twists and turns. There are smooth patches and there are bumps and obstacles in the way. It’s not always the easiest thing to drive on, but you still prefer it to the highway.
Diversity and equality:
Edwards Church is a spiritual place, full of love and kindness. Many people from different backgrounds come to Edwards Church and become equal with everyone else.
Freedom of beliefs and people are key factors of the church.
Building together:
Edwards Church is a lot like a bee-hive with bees because the bees collect and give honey, but also work together as a community which is exactly like Edwards Church and
its members.
