March: Open Spirit Events

March 4, 2025 by Alexis Ortiz

Breaking the Fast in Community: An Iftar for All

Monday, March 10 – 6-8 pm in Edwards Hall

The Multi-Faith Collaborative of Open Spirit and the Ahlulbayt School for Knowledge invite you to join in a joyous and sacred Iftar community meal. During the season of Ramadan, our Muslim friends and siblings fast during daylight hours and gather to break the fast at sunset.

On Monday, March 10, we will gather as a multi-faith community to honor the traditions of those of us from the Muslim faith. We are grateful for our guest speakers, Dr. Sadik Kassim, a scientist specializing in Gene Therapy for Cancer, and interim chaplain of the Taha Collective, a nonprofit organization established to serve the Muslim-American and spiritually-curious community of the Boston metropolitan area; and Imam Zubair, spiritual leader of Masjid-E-Basheer (Islamic Society of Framingham). Following their reflections, we will pray together and share in a fast-breaking meal.

Please bring a favorite vegetarian dish to share. We invite you to make a donation to support our programming. We suggest $20 – more if you can; less if you can’t! (If you are fasting during Ramadan, please come as our guests – no need to bring food or make a donation.)

We ask you to register so we may plan accordingly https://forms.gle/fpPxv5KYaMzR9oBs5

Monthly Poetry Writing Workshop: Spirituality and Poetry; Grounded in Awe

Monday, March 17 – 2-3:30 pm in Edwards Hall

What stirs in us when we reach for a poem, whether sitting down to write or read the work of a favorite poet? Why do poems stay with us and continue to inform our lives?

In this workshop, we’ll approach poetry as a vehicle for living more fully in the present and deepening our humanity. Each month we’ll focus on an element of craft in the context of a particular theme to generate new work.

This class is for anyone interested in poetry as a spiritual practice and no previous writing experience is required to enjoy the pleasures of creative expression. Come join us and be inspired!

RSVPs are appreciated so that we can plan for space and supplies. To RSVP, please click here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd0pSH_m3MUarz-qgbp0bqiCC05Md2hOD9iKyguyIa9hUBlVQ/viewform?usp=pp_url

Suggested donation of $20. More if you can, less if you can’t. Email info@openspiritcenter.org with questions.

Sound Healing Journey

Monday evenings – 7-8 pm in Edwards Hall

Immerse yourself in the calming vibrations of crystal singing bowls, the enchanting melodies of Koshi chimes, and the soothing resonance of the tongue drum. Each sound is carefully curated to create a unique auditory experience that promotes deep relaxation, releases tension and restores energetic balance.

Alongside the healing sounds, guided meditation and reiki energy healing will further enhance your experience, helping you connect deeply with your inner peace and restore harmony within your body and mind. Allow yourself to embark on a transformative journey where sound, meditation, and reiki work together to ground you in peace, well-being, and emotional healing. This class is perfect for those seeking stress relief, relaxation, and a profound sense of balance.

This class will be led by Caroline Goldman. To learn more about Caroline, visit breatheingratitude.com.
