What are we doing?
We are living through some challenging times and there are many things that are weighing heavily on the hearts of the JLA Team, and we are sure on yours also. These challenges also bring opportunities for us to work together as a team and a congregation to help alleviate some of the suffering in our world. Because of this, the JLA Team has decided to try to update you monthly on some of the things on which we are working.
Here are some upcoming events that we would like to bring to your attention:
- June 1: Welcoming a new Brazilian Congregation as they begin meeting on our campus. We will bring them some special foods to share.
- June 1: Framingham Pride Flag raising / block party at the Memorial Building.
- June 7: The Southern New England UCC (SNEUCC) Conference annual meeting, 9 am – 1 pm.
- June 14: National Days of Action, No Kings (more information to follow).
- June 21: Juneteenth Celebration at Farm Pond, fashion show and BBQ, 1 – 5 pm.
- July 10-16: UCC Synod meeting
- July 16: Participation in the Framingham State University fresh produce program. The program provides fresh produce to students who stay on the FSU campus through the summer as they have nowhere else to go.
- July 20: Outdoor Summer Service Project – Helping Framingham Community Farm pull garlic.
- July 20: SNEUCC Woosox Game, all are invited, $35 per ticket, more information to follow.
Another way to help if you are able is through our monthly special offerings. Each month the JLA Team discusses various options for these offerings and chooses one. Our choices sometimes depend on special events happening during that month and / or sometimes they are chosen because of pressing needs brought on by natural disasters and other catastrophic events.
If you have any questions about the events listed or have suggestions of other ways our congregation can help support our community and beyond, please let a member of the Team know. Our next meeting is on June 4 at 5:30 pm in the church office. Anyone who would like to attend is very welcome.
Action Alert Emails
From time to time, there are events in our community, state, or nation that JLA feels the congregation might
like to know about. To that end, Mary Memmott graciously offered to set up an email list and track these events. They could range from things like the Women’s March in Washington, DC; local rallies for causes we support; writing letters to our representatives requesting support for a specific bill; attending important city council meetings; and more. If you would like to be included in this email list, please contact Mary via email at memmottm@gmail.com. She will be happy to add you.
Respectfully,
Your JLA Team (Heather Gonzalez, Fran Bogle, Debbie Clark, Noah Cichowlas, Grace Gamez, Peggy Harrison, and Ronda Yeomans)
