Embracing Winter: Wisdom from Traditional Chinese Philosophy and Medicine
Sunday, December 7 – 4-5:30 pm at Open Spirit
Sponsored by Open Spirit’s Multi-Faith Collaborative
In Traditional Chinese Medicine and Philosophy, the world and our lives are shaped by five elements. Water is the element associated with winter.
As we move into winter, Yining Lu, a Harvard Divinity School student and a student of Traditional Chinese Medicine, will lead us into a multi-sensory experience of this connection between water and winter.
Yining Lu will also bring a piece of music played through this ancient Chinese instrument called Guzheng.
Through sound, touch, and taste, we will explore the wisdom embedded in this natural element of water and the season of winter, allowing ourselves to experience how such wisdom could help us embrace the present moment, and prepare us for the renewal and growth in the spring. There will also be time for conversation, as we share our reflections, informed by our own experiences and spiritual traditions.
Honoring the Dark; Trusting the Promise of Light
Saturday, December 20 – 7 pm at Open Spirit and via Zoom
During the holiday season, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and isolated, especially if you are grieving. Whatever is going on in our lives, we can become caught up with busyness and forget to honor the natural rhythms of our bodies and our earth.
Join us virtually or in person on the longest night of the year for an hour of gentle yoga, deep relaxation, and guided meditation. We will draw inspiration from a variety of spiritual traditions as we honor the wide range of emotions that are stirred this time of year, and as we point to the promise of the return of light and hope.
Sit on a chair or use a yoga mat; bring a candle to light. Led by Debbie Clark. There is no charge for this event; donations to support Open Spirit are appreciated.
