Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness… (Luke 4:1)

In our opening message on Sunday, we talked about our experiences of the desert: It is hot in the daytime and cold at night. The colors seem monochromatic until we look more closely. It seems as though there is no life until we look more closely. It leaves us feeling frightened, vulnerable, and thirsty. It inspires awe. We reflected on Jesus’ time in the wilderness, and how he may have experienced some of the same things.
Holy Spirit, in the desert times of our lives, may we notice the subtle beauty of the colors. May we discover hidden life. May our vulnerability lead us closer to you. May we be moved to awe. Amen.
