Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”–Matthew 26:36

In the garden we gathered under the old olive trees on plastic chairs. For me it was a place to sit in wonder and absorb ancient energy, as it is one of the places we know Jesus visited.
I was nourished by the awareness that people have come here to meet, pray, reflect, remember and take photos for almost two thousand years. This tree might only remember a thousand years or so, but its ancient bark sang out to me. Rest, remember, pray and celebrate the sacred.
I remembered Jesus and the disciples and was glad to be gathered with them in spirit. Even in the times that feel the most frightening and lonely we are surrounded by communities of love and a God who promises us eternal life.
Thank you God for sacred ground where we can meet you in new ways. Amen
