Celebrating our Nation’s Birthday in Song
On July 4, our nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In these complicated and divisive times, it can be hard to know how to express our love and our hopes for our country. This season, we offer two opportunities to do so, focusing on songs of hope.
- June 28, July 5, and July 12: We will have a three-week worship series called “Singing Hope for America.” We will sing old favorites and new tunes, drawing upon the history and background of the music, reflecting on how they express our yearnings and our sorrows, singing them as prayer.
- July 12 @ 4 pm on the Framingham Centre Common: We will join with friends from Framingham churches and synagogues for “Our Voices Unite: Singing for America.” Each faith community will lead one or two songs of hope, with history, context, and prayer. Our intention is to be non-partisan, interfaith, and open-hearted. We will not focus on what or who is right or wrong; we will center on hopes and prayers for how we might live into the principles and ideals we proclaim. Bring a chair or a blanket. Come and sing with friends and neighbors.
