The Three Sisters are Intertwining!
This year, instead of our herb garden, our Christian Explorers have planted our own version of a Three Sisters Garden. We are drawing inspiration from Native Americans in our area, who plant corn, beans, and squash together in mounds. The corn stalks provide a trellis for the beans to climb. The bean provide nitrogen for the soil. The squash protects the soil and keeps it moist.
If you haven’t seen it yet, please take a look. The beans are producing! The corn (strawberry popcorn) is growing. Joanie is working to provide a little extra encouragement to the squash. It’s not perfect, and it is a beautiful reminder of the web of creation and the gift of diversity in community.
A New Year of Youth Spiritual Exploration
Our youth (6th-12th graders) gathered for their first evening of pizza, silly games, and profound conversation about faith on Sunday, September 13. Their thoughtfulness and wisdom are already shining through! They will meet monthly for fellowship and faith exploration, with an opportunity for Confirmation in the spring.
Scheduled meeting dates are October 25, November 8 (helping at the Veterans Dinner), December 13, January 10, February 28, April 11, and May 23. We may also add some special projects.
